Hospital commitment will not waver
As the President and Chief Executive Officer of Vista Health System, I would like to respond to recent comments circulated in the local press regarding our commitment to invest in our hospital facilities in Waukegan.
The past six years have been exciting for Vista Health System as we have expanded and enhanced the services we provide for our community.
For example, expectant mothers and their families delivering at our Vista East New Family Center enjoy new labor and delivery suites and infants in need of lifesaving treatment are cared for in our brand new Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Our most critically ill patients are treated in Vista East’s new 24-bed intensive care unit. Psychiatric resources for the community have been enhanced at Vista West, where we expanded the only adult inpatient psychiatry unit in Lake County.
Other investments at Vista East include opening an EP/Cath Lab, full remodeling of both our Same Day Surgery Center and Progressive Care Unit, adding a new Wound Care Center with two hyperbaric chambers, and installing the latest generation of the da Vinci Surgical System for robotic-assisted surgical procedures.
Vista also continues to attract new physicians to northern Illinois, bringing 20 physicians to the community since 2006. Most recently, we have added two new OB/GYNs and we are steadily working to recruit even more primary care and specialty physicians.
Vista East is Lake County’s primary safety net hospital and we will continue to serve residents at all our locations. We are committed to providing much-needed, lifesaving hospital care for residents of north central and northwestern Lake County.
