The Lake County Housing Authority has just been given word that it was selected by the Efficient Living: Illinois Public Housing Authority Energy Program at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus and the Illinois Energy Office at the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) for an award sum of $292,617 for program year five. Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer, David A. Northern, Sr. stated that "this grant is truly a blessing as it allows our agency to move further in our process for energy efficiency. We are excited for this award and the opportunities for our agency and clients that it brings with it."

This grant is intended to help Public Housing Authorities implement energy cost reduction measures in the buildings which it owns and operates. Through receipt of such a grant, the Lake County Housing Authority plans to move forward with its transformative project to make its properties even more energy efficient. The grant encourages Housing Authorities to replace equipment and appliances, going even above and beyond the minimum federal energy efficiency standards.
