Missed opportunity in Campton Hills

Missed opportunity in Campton Hills

I have never been the type to judge people. I don’t think that I’m better than anyone. People have fallen into hard times and hopefully they have the opportunity to do something positive on the other end. Addicts are not always fortunate enough to live through their ”mistake,”

I’m writing out of anger. It started because of what I read regarding the treatment center that could have opened in Campton Hills. Many of the people cheering that it wasn’t going to happen are the same people that have fed the stigma regarding anything related to addiction.

Instead of facilitating change and progress for people on a day-to-day basis, Campton Hills is still home to a wonderful unused school. Wonderful. Rehab centers do not cause trouble — they are run like hospitals with even more structure. Addicts do not run around the town foaming at the mouth looking for drugs. You wouldn’t even know it was there. What a missed opportunity for the town and for the addicted people in Kane County.

People are quick to put on their best face in the community, school, church, etc. But when it comes to helping down and out people we do everything we can to avoid it. Maybe it will go away if we pretend it’s not there. These people getting help will hurt our “quality of life.” I sincerely hope addiction does not get too close to any of these people’s families.

What a missed opportunity to do something positive for fellow human beings. All because we can’t be bothered or quality of life will be affected. It would not change your quality of life in the least; it would change theirs. Enjoy that unused school and your good life.
