Vote now in Dancing with the Geneva Stars

The popular fundraiser Dancing with the Geneva Stars will celebrate its fifth anniversary at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, at Eagle Brook Country Club.

Open seating is $40 per guest which includes hors d’oeuvres, dessert and cash bar and an evening of great entertainment. The easiest way to make a reservation and vote is to go directly to the website, www.genevarts.org

Voting will continue until Friday, Feb. 8. One dollar counts as one vote.

The committee promises an evening of entertainment with 12 local celebrities competing for your votes.

New this year is the chance to win an iPad. To end the evening of entertainment, there will be a twist dance-off followed by an evening of open dance.

The entire evening’s program is emceed by Mayor Kevin Burns.

DOGS will celebrate its fifth year by bringing back the past four champions in a special performance choreographed by Linda Cunningham, founder and artistic director of State Street Dance Studio. Returning champions include: Laura Rush and Derek Swanson, 2012; Dr. Peter Cladis and his wife, Jane, 2011; Marcia and Harry Smith, 2010; and Tom and Mary Rogers, 2009.

Competing for the 2013 title are:

Justin and Katlyn Eggar: The Eggars own Eggar Allstate Agency in Geneva. They are members of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. They help sponsor and volunteer for the many Chamber festivals including 60 Men Who Cook. They have raised money for the Illinois Food Bank. They enjoy running half-marathons, hiking, biking. The Eggars will be performing a swing dance.

Dorothy Flanagan and Sam Hill: Dorothy has been Geneva’s Fourth Ward Alderwoman for the past 19 years. She co-chairs the Geneva Beautification Committee and is vice president of marketing and sales for Copia International, a software publishing company. SAM HILL is retired and he truly loves to dance. Sam has served as First Ward Alderman for 12 years. He previously served on the Geneva Plan Commission, the Geneva Park District Board and currently serves on the Park Foundation Board. Sam is the city liaison to the Chamber board of directors.

Adil and Kathy Jaffer: The Jaffers, owners of three Rosatis Pizza restaurants, recently celebrated their 23rd anniversary. Kathy continues to work as a hair stylist at home. Active in school volunteering, they have had roles in Viking Vendor, homecoming, theater boosters and post prom at Geneva High School. They are also involved in Feed My Starving Children fundraisers. They will dance the salsa.

Mary and Kevin Keyzer: The Keyzers will perform the Cha-cha. Kevin works at Engineered Ceramics. Mary has been a social studies teacher at Geneva High School for 13 years and is one of the school’s activity directors. Mary was recently awarded 2012 Swim Coach of the Year by other professional swim coaches and her swimmers. Kevin and Mary also serve as Robotics Club mentors at Geneva High School. They enjoy triathlons, and this past year successfully completed their first half of the Ironman competition.

Elizabeth and Eric Ott: The Otts met in 2001 at a Triathlon Time Trial while participating in some of their favorite activities — running, biking, and swimming. Eric owns the Geneva Running Outfitters on State Street. As the owner of this downtown business, he became involved in the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. Elizabeth is currently a high school Math teacher at York High School in Elmhurst. They will dance the tango.

Lynn and Steve Saunders: Married for 25 years, the Saunderses ran a local business for over 10 years. Currently, Lynn works at First American Bank in Geneva. Lynn serves on the board of directors of the Chamber of Commerce and is also board president for Community Contacts, Inc. A Geneva High School graduate, Steve owns Saunders Real Estate Solutions, Inc. Steve has served as past president of the Fox Valley Board of Realtors and past executive board member for the Geneva Chamber of Commerce. They will dance the waltz.
