The academy is a 10-week program with classes running approximately three hours each on Thursday evenings. Each class begins at 6:30 p.m. and students graduate May 23.

Training will be at the various sheriff's office facilities throughout the county, including the Lake County Courthouse and Lake County jail in Waukegan, as well as the Highway Patrol Division in Libertyville.

The academy is offered free to Lake County residents. Participants must be 21 years of age or older, be of good moral character, and have no felony convictions.

Applications are available at the Lake County Sheriff's Administration Office at 25 S. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., in Waukegan or on the Lake County website, www.lakecountyil.gov/sheriff.

Interested residents must have their application in by Feb. 15. For more information, contact Deputy Roman Buchberger at (847) 377-4211.
