Heart disease is the leading cause of death — one in four deaths — for both men and women in the United States. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states health care costs for coronary heart disease alone costs the United States $108.9 billion each year. This total includes the cost of health care services, medications and lost productivity. The CDC recommends regular checkups, eating a healthy diet, maintaining a healthy weight and regular exercise to reduce your risk for cardiovascular disease.
