Man charged in Palatine retirement home break-in
An Inverness man was arrested early Sunday after he broke into a Palatine retirement home, ripped a television off the wall and used it to bust out a window on a car parked outside, police said.
When officers apprehended Leonardo Adames, the 33-year-old suspect claimed his friends left him at the facility after a night of clubbing and that he didn’t remember anything else, Cmdr. Kurt Schroeder said Monday.
Officers were dispatched about 3 a.m. Sunday to the Tamarack retirement home at 55 S. Greeley St. Witnesses described loud noises and a man trying to break out a window on a 2003 Cadillac with a flat-screen TV.
When police arrived, they found Adames in a hallway inside the facility, according to Schroeder. He said Adames had shattered the glass on two main entrance doors, smashed a vase and statue inside the building, and torn the legs off a wooden table.
Police found a Panasonic TV that had been removed from a lobby wall near a damaged Cadillac parked outside.
“(Adames) said he was at a club off Randall Road and he doesn’t remember anything after that,” Schroeder said. “He was dropped off by friends.”
Adames, of the 900 block of Livingston Lane, was charged with criminal damage to property and residential burglary. He remained in the Cook County jail Monday on $20,000 bail. His next court date is Feb. 21.
