Coyotes chasing pet dogs break door of house

RIVERSIDE, Ill. -- A pack of coyotes chasing after a suburban Chicago man's dogs leapt over a fence and raced up to the home, but didn't stop there.

In an especially brazen attack, they broke glass panels on a door while trying to get inside the man's house on Friday.

Roger Nelson of Riverside says even after he rushed his dogs inside, the four coyotes were snarling, bearing their teeth and clawing at the door.

He fired a high-powered BB gun, striking two of them and scaring them away.

Riverside Police Sgt. William Gutschick says he's been a police officer for 25 years and had never before heard of coyotes trying to get into a home while chasing pets.

None of the dogs was hurt.
