Shinseki absent from inaugural ceremonies

WASHINGTON — Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki was absent from ceremonial inaugural ceremonies as President Barack Obama was being sworn-in to a second term.

Shineski was absent from the ceremonies at the Capitol for security reasons. He would be the successor to head the government should catastrophe strike at the Capitol.

The absence of a Cabinet secretary maintained a long-standing tradition that one member not attend the inaugural ceremonies.
