Mount Prospect police warn of residential burglaries

Four residential burglaries have taken place in the south central area of Mount Prospect since Friday, spurring police to warn residents to be vigilant.

The burglaries took place after dark in the neighborhoods bordered by Central Road, Golf Road, Mount Prospect Road and Busse Road.

Police believe the burglar has forced open doors or windows to gain entrance to unoccupied homes.

“We’re asking people to call 911 if there is something suspicious or out of place in their neighborhood,” officer Greg Sill said. “We want to stress the importance of locking their doors and turning on their lights.”

Turning on both interior and exterior lights, as well as leaving on a TV or radio, deters potential burglars, Sill said.

Mount Prospect police have increased patrols in the area.

Anyone with information can call the Mount Prospect Police Department at (847) 870-5654 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at (847) 590-7867. Callers to Crime Stoppers are eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for any information that leads to an arrest and prosecution.
