Ky. boy recovering after dog bites off nose

HENDERSON, Ky. — A western Kentucky boy is recovering after surgeons reattached his nose — which had been bitten off and swallowed by a dog.

The Gleaner cited a statement from the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office that said 10-year-old Matthew Weaver was in good condition Thursday after undergoing surgery at Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville.

Police said the boy was visiting friends when the dog, a pit bull, attacked him.

The statement says the dog was euthanized and a local veterinarian was able to perform a surgical procedure and recover the boy’s nose from the animal’s stomach. His nose was then taken to the hospital and reattached.

The dog’s owner, Robert Santana, told police he got the animal as a puppy and it had not previously shown signs of aggression.
