Elgin man faces sexual assault charge
An Elgin man was being held on $75,000 bail Thursday after being charged with criminal sexual assault, according to Kane County court records.
Tracy Haugabook, 32, of the 0-100 block of Times Square, was arrested Wednesday as a result of an incident that happened in September. Elgin Police Cmdr. Glenn Theriault said the arrest took place as soon as DNA test results were available.
The victim, a Berwyn woman, called Elgin police Sept. 27 to report the incident, according to police records.
The victim said she was visiting a friend on Locust Street and had fallen asleep on the couch at 5:30 a.m. after having been drinking with her friend and Haugabook, the police report said. The victim woke up to Haugabook standing over her with his pants and underwear pulled down to his mid-thighs.
The victim was transported to a hospital where a sexual assault kit was completed. Results from the analysis performed by the Illinois State Police Crime Laboratory showed semen and DNA from Haugabook, the report said.
Haugabook is next due in court Jan. 24.
