Michael Charewicz, Des Plaines 8th Ward alderman, will be acting mayor at least until Feb. 4 when the city council will vote again, aldermen decided Monday night. Charewicz said he is honored to hold the office. Mayor Marty Moylan resigned the post because he was elected to represent the 55th district in the Illinois House. Two aldermen, Matt Bogusz of the Third Ward and Mark Walsten of the Sixth Ward, are seeking the mayor's office in April, as is former Mayor Tony Arredia. Walsten and Gregory Sarlo, who is challenging Jim Brookman, the third ward incumbent, face challenges to their petitions to be on the April ballot. Charewicz, as acting mayor, will be part of the three-member electoral board that hears the challenges.
