STYX returning to Naperville's Ribfest

By Justin Kmitch

You can "Come Sail Away" with the Naperville Exchange Club this summer, but you'd better not bust out your "Mr. Roboto" dance with a handful of ribs.

The Naperville Exchange Club on Tuesday announced Chicago's own STYX will return to Ribfest to headline the event's opening night on July 3.

The 26th annual Ribfest, featuring between 14 and 16 rib vendors, music and family activities, will run from July 3 through July 7 in Knoch Park near downtown.

Over the past 25 years, the Exchange Club has donated more than $12.5 million from Ribfest proceeds to more than 50 area agencies working toward the elimination of child abuse and domestic violence.

"We are very excited about having STYX return to the Ribfest stage," Marty Walker, Ribfest's 2013 chairman, said in a statement. "This iconic band will bring patrons of all ages to enjoy our event. It is a great way to kick off the weekend."

STYX features Tommy Shaw, James "JY" Young, Lawrence Gowan, Todd Sucherman and Ricky Phillips (along with the occasional surprise appearance by original bassist Chuck Panozzo).

Date specific tickets will go on sale in March at ribfest.net.
