Bomb plot suspect from Elk Grove fit to stand trial

MIAMI, Okla. — An Elk Grove Village man charged with plotting to bomb churches in northeast Oklahoma has been found competent to stand trial.

Online court records show that 24-year-old Gregory Arthur Weiler II stipulated Tuesday to a report finding him mentally competent for trial on a charge of violating Oklahoma’s anti-terrorism act.

Weiler’s attorney declined to comment later Tuesday.

Weiler is due back in court Feb. 7.

Prosecutors say Weiler planned to bomb churches in Oklahoma and that investigators found instructions for making Molotov cocktails, a list of 48 churches and a written outline of his plan.

Family members have said that Weiler has struggled with mental illness but is fine when he takes his medication. Relatives believe Weiler may have stopped taking his medication before his arrest.
