DuPage Community Foundation seeks scholarship nominees

The DuPage Community Foundation is accepting applications for the 2013 Paul D. Pierotti Memorial Scholarship Fund Award.

The Paul D. Pierotti Memorial Scholarship Fund was established at The DuPage Community Foundation in June 2006 by Forest Preserve District of DuPage County President D. “Dewey” Pierotti Jr. and his wife, Leslie, in memory of their late son, Paul. It was created to generate income for annual scholarships for volunteers, children of volunteers, and those associated with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and The Conservation Foundation who plan to work toward careers in natural resource management or other environmentally-related fields of study.

Paul Pierotti was killed in March of 1998 as a result of a two-car crash that occurred in West Chicago. A graduate of York High School in Elmhurst and West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, West Virginia, Pierotti had been an assistant manager of the Elmhurst-Chicago Stone Co. plant in Elgin.

Applicants wishing to be considered for the scholarship must possess a 3.0 cumulative G.P.A., provide details of their academic achievement, outline their participation in extracurricular activities, and write a 350 word essay on an environmental topic determined annually by the selection committee.

Scholarship applications for the Paul D. Pierotti Memorial Scholarship Fund are administered by The DuPage Community Foundation and reviewed by a special selection committee consisting of a Pierotti family member, a Forest Preserve District of DuPage County staff member, a Conservation Foundation staff member, and four community volunteers. The committee then recommends its selections to The DuPage Community Foundation’s board of trustees for final approval.

Application forms can be downloaded from The DuPage Community Foundation’s website at www.dcfdn.org. Completed applications should be postmarked by January 31. Pierotti Memorial Scholarship Fund, please contact Jessica Daley, foundation program and communications manager, at (630) 665-5556 or jdaley@dcfdn.org.
