I am writing about the stabbing death of Alyssa Van Meter. I want people to know what a wonderful young lady she was, whose life was cut short too soon.

She was my son’s close friend for at least 10 years, and was like a daughter to me.

Alyssa was the epitome of pulling oneself up by one’s bootstraps to make something of herself. She was excited about what looked to be a bright future that she was working very hard to achieve, and reveled in each accomplishment.

She was at my home just before her death to visit a sick family member, which was just like her. She was making plans to cook a homemade dinner for our family. She talked excitedly about moving ahead with her life and with no hint of what was to come shortly after. Alyssa Van Meter was a true friend and a thoughtful “daughter,” and will be greatly missed.
