Oak Brook company acquires Michigan firm

An area dredging, demolition and remediation business is acquiring the assets of Michigan-based Terra Contracting LLC for about $20 million.
The agreement was announced Wednesday by Oak Brook-based Great Lakes Dredge & Dock Corp.
Kalamazoo-based Terra Contracting provides of a variety of environmental, maintenance and infrastructure-related services. Terra Contracting employs about 200 engineering, operations and administrative staff and serves customers in more than 30 states.
Great Lakes Dredge says the acquisition will help it expand into the market for environmental remediation and boost its demolition business.
Steve Taplin founded Terra Contracting in 2001 and has been named president of Terra Contracting Services LLC, a company formed by the deal.
