McHenry fire causes $250,000 in damages

A townhouse fire in McHenry caused about $250,000 in damages and killed two cats, according to fire officials.

The fire occurred about 9 p.m. Wednesday at a four-unit townhouse on the 500 block of Legend Lane, said Rudy Horist, deputy chief for the McHenry County Fire Protection District.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the garage ablaze, with fire extending throughout the townhouse, Horist said.

All residents had left the building, Horist said, but firefighters had to remove three cats from the building, including the two that had died.

At least one unit is still uninhabitable, Horist said. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but it is believed to be accidental.
