Vernon Area Library offering scholarship to high school senior

The Friends of the Vernon Area Library are accepting applications for the $2,000 Allen Meyer Memorial Scholarship through March 1, 2013. The scholarship will be awarded to a high school senior in the Vernon Area Public Library District.

Applicants must live within the Vernon Area Public Library District, have been accepted into a higher education program for the 2013-14 school year and either have been an employee or volunteer at the library, or be able to demonstrate how the library has affected their life or educational goals. Applicants should submit a completed online form, a letter of reference, a letter of acceptance, and a copy of the student's most recent high school transcripts. The online form is available on the Vernon Area Public Library website at vapld.info in the menu under “Community,” then “Allen Meyer Scholarship.” Limit one submission per student. To be considered for the scholarship, email letters and transcripts to friends@vapld.info. All application materials must be submitted by March 1, 2013.

The scholarship is in honor of former Library Director Allen Meyer, who passed away in 2008. During his tenure, Allen provided strong leadership that allowed the library to meet the ever-changing informational and technological needs of district residents. He set ever-increasing high standards of excellence for himself and his staff, and he valued his day-to-day interactions with the staff and public. Allen enjoyed working with the community and aimed to provide the best library services possible. It is in this spirit that they award this scholarship.
