West Chicago nail salon wins Frosty Fest Window Decorating Contest

Businesses across the region have decked their halls with holiday lights and greenery, but one business in West Chicago was voted the People’s Choice winner in the recent Frosty Fest Window Decorating Contest because of an added dose of sweet whimsy.

Royal Polish Nail Salon, at 116 Galena St., went all out in decorating the storefront in a candy theme, creating a nostalgic display that looked good enough to eat. Gumdrops, lollipops and the candy dots that pull off paper were part of the festive vignette.

Owned by West Chicago native Kristen Ramirez, Royal Polish Nail Salon has developed a loyal following in the three years since opening its doors. The business offers natural nail services, manicures, pedicures, gel polish (no-chip), enhancements of gel and acrylic, waxing, eyelash application and glitter tattoos.

“We chose West Chicago to open the business because we wanted to be a part of the growth and development of the city,” Ramirez said.

This was the second year for the contest, which was developed to connect the business community with residents and visitors to the downtown. Participation by Mid City Restaurant, St. Vincent DePaul Thrift Shop, El Coco Loco, T.J. Maintenance, Casa Rios Bridal Boutique, Paleteria Rosy Ice Cream, Imprenta Graphics Studio and Royal Polish added to the warm and welcoming atmosphere for the thousands circulating downtown during the city’s special event.

Pictures of all the participating businesses and the excitement of the seasonal festival can be seen in a slideshow available on the city’s website, westchicago.org.
