10th Midtown 5K raises a record $35,000 for Bears Care

She wasn't exactly sure what it was, but Midtown 5K race director Robyn Kove felt unusually calm the morning of this year's 10th annual event, held on September 29.

Maybe it was the record number of pre-race entries, or the 60-plus degree temps which greeted the 900-plus runners and walkers who came out in force that day.

“We knew we had record attendance and that we were going to raise a lot of money for our beneficiary, Bears Care,” said Kove.

Last week, the seasoned 5K race director gathered at the club with fellow Midtown associates and corporate sponsors alike, where they unveiled and presented a giant check in the amount of $35,000 to Marge Hamm, Director of Bears Care.

“We're so pleased at the record turnout this year and even more pleased with a record-setting amount that our event raised; it was truly a milestone,” said Kove. “What's most gratifying is that so many adults and children of Chicago will benefit from the efforts of our sponsors and participants.”

To date, the Midtown 5K has raised more than $225,000 for Bears Care, the charitable beneficiary of the Chicago Bears, committed to improving the quality of life for people in the Chicagoland community, especially disadvantaged children and their families through targeted programs supporting education, youth athletics, and medical research and health awareness programs focusing on breast and ovarian cancer.

”Bears Care is incredibly fortunate to have a community partner like Midtown Athletic Club,” said Hamm. “The 5K Run & Walk gets bigger and better each year because of Midtown's leadership. Their enthusiasm inspires adults and children to participate, and businesses to lend their resources to support this great event which has become a date to circle each year on the fall calendar.”

Participating 5K sponsors include Athletico, The Chicago Bears, Culvers, Direct Fitness Solutions, Get Flipped Chicago, Midtown Athletic Club, Mobile Music Interactive Entertainment, 101.9fm THE MIX, Quill.com, Richard Klein Photography, Solid Line Media, UPS, US Bank, and Whole Foods Market Palatine.
