Woodridge woman remembered for helping others

A slain Woodridge woman loved helping others and did so daily at her job with O’Hare Towing, according to her boss, Bill Gratzianna. Alyssa Van Meter had just returned from helping with Hurricane Sandy cleanup a few weeks before she was found dead in her apartment. Her ex-boyfriend, Adam Belmont, has been charged with murder. NIU students accused of hazing begin to surrender

Thirteen of the 22 students accused of hazing in the death of a 19-year-old fraternity pledge began turning themselves into authorities yesterday. The students are facing felony and misdemeanor charges. David Bogenberger of Palatine was found dead Nov. 2 in the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Full story.

Three students injured in Palatine bus crash

A bus with students from Winston Campus Junior High crashed into a pickup truck yesterday afternoon in Palatine sending four people to the hospital — including three students. The crash happened on North Frontage Road and Bayside Drive with 25 students on the bus. Injuries were described as minor. Full story.

Premature baby left in Yorktown trash bin

Police believe a teenager delivered a four-months premature baby in Glendale Heights and then threw it into a trash bin near Yorktown Shopping Center in Lombard. An autopsy could not determine if the baby died before or after delivery. It’s not clear if the mother will face additional charges. Full story.

Sugar Grove might reverse video gambling ban

After hearing from supporters from the Sugar Grove American Legion post, the Sugar Grove village board indicated last night that it might reverse its ban on video gambling. The board directed staff to prepare two ordinances — one that would put an advisory question on the ballot and another that would reverse the ban enacted in September. Voters in the April election would then get a chance to weigh in on the debate. Full story.

Temperatures will be just above freezing as you head out the door this morning, then climb to 44 degrees this afternoon. The rain will move in this evening when temperatures drop to 40 degrees. Bulls beat Celtics at United Center

The Bulls bested the Celtics last night with a 100-89 victory at the United Center. Joakim Noah had a triple-double, and Luol Deng and Carlos Boozer scored 21 points apiece. The Bulls improved to 14-10. Full story.
