Count down to the end with ‘Last Show on Earth’ in Batavia

If the world will come to an end on Dec. 21, 2012, why not enjoy your last night on earth with good company and a great show?

Acid Reflux Comedy, a local sketch troupe that has performed in such festivals as Chicago Sketchfest and the Chicago Improv Festival, is presenting an evening of sketch comedy, short scenes, music and more.

The show begins at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, in The Jester’s Courtyard theater inside All Dressed Up Costumes in the Campana building, 901 N. Batavia Ave., Batavia.

“It’s almost like a New Year’s Eve cabaret ... except instead of counting down to the New Year, we’re counting down to the end,” said Executive Director Bryan Renaud.

“It’s exciting. Many of our scenes find the characters asking themselves ... what do you do when you know it is your last night alive? Some responses are funny, some are touching, some are just weird, but most of it will be funny (we hope!)”

The cast of Acid Reflux features Bryan Renaud of Naperville, Emily Schmidt of Naperville, Heidi Buyck of Woodridge, Billy Chengary of Downers Grove, Colleen DeRosa of Downers Grove, Heidi Butler of Geneva, Tommy Rivera of Naperville, Lauren Smith of Byron, and Tina Naponelli of Crystal Lake.

In addition to the show, a $20 ticket to the event also earns you a place at the “End of the World Feast,” consisting of many popular home-style foods.

“You can’t be strict to your diet on your last night on earth. We’ll have the most delectable spread of home-cooked foods; comfort food, things that make you really happy and satisfied ... as well as those items known to last through the apocalypse,” said Emily Schmidt, troupe member and co-writer of the show.

There will also be Armageddon-themed drinks available.

It will be a celebration of the “end” as well as the celebration of new beginnings.

The show is rated PG-13, with mild-language and some sexual elements to the scenes. Tickets will not be sold at the door, and must be pre-ordered at AcidRefluxComedy.com.

The festivities begin at 8 p.m. and will continue “until we know the end is over,” according to the organizers.
