More than 200 Daily Herald subscribers were treated Tuesday to an advance screening of the new Tom Cruise film, "Jack Reacher," followed by a chat with Daily Herald Film Critic Dann Gire. The film opens Friday, Dec. 21 in Chicago.

The event, part of the Daily Herald's ongoing Subscriber Total Access events program, was held at the Hollywood Palms theater in Naperville.

Directed by Oscar-winning writer Christopher McQuarrie, "Jack Reacher" is an action-thriller based on Lee Child's series of novels featuring the title character. The first Reacher book, "Killing Floor," was released in 1997; 16 more have followed.
