Lombard man charged with Des Plaines bank robbery

A Lombard man suspected of committing bank robberies in Des Plaines, Oak Brook and Buffalo Grove is in custody, according to an FBI news release. Martin Crossley, 37, was arrested Monday by FBI agents, who found him at a relative's home in Lombard. Full story.

Des Plaines man implicates himself in more than 30 vehicle break-ins

A Des Plaines man who recently was apprehended by police while breaking into a vehicle has implicated himself in 37 other vehicle burglaries in the city since Oct. 1, police said. Frank Sabo, 26, of the 1200 block of Brown Street, was arrested at 3:40 a.m. Nov. 30 while breaking into a vehicle on the 900 block of Greenview Avenue. Full story.

Debra Bree, a veteran prosecutor at the Kane County state's attorney's office, has been picked to be the executive director of the Kane County Children's Advocacy Center, filling a vacancy created when Lori Chassee stepped down earlier this year. Lake Zurich providing sales-tax rebates for Mariano's project

Up to $2 million may go to a developer hoping to build a Mariano's Fresh Market in Lake Zurich, thanks to a sales-tax rebate agreement the village recently approved. The grocery store would be part of a retail project at Route 22 and Quentin Road. Full story.

The first federal hearing examining the relationship between schools and the criminal justice system took place Wednesday. Sen. Dick Durbin, a Springfield Democrat, chaired the hearing, which comes after a recent change in Illinois law prompted by an attack on an Elgin teacher and a subsequent Daily Herald investigation. $18,000 raised in Hope for the Holidays drive

A Daily Herald fundraiser to buy toys and gifts for children and families at WINGS, a Palatine-based emergency shelter, has raised $18,332 in just two weeks. So far, 341 families and individuals have donated to Hope for the Holidays. The fundraiser was suggested by Daily Herald reader Walt Meder of Arlington Heights, who made a donation himself.
