The driver of the semitrailer, Michael Fritz, 47, of McHenry, was not injured in the crash.

Authorities said Fritz observed the Toyota Corolla driven by Baureis approach from the west, and cross the centerline and into the oncoming lane. Fritz couldn't avoid the crash.

First responders put out a fire engulfing the Toyota and then extricated Baureis, who was pinned in the vehicle.
