26-year-old man airlifted from crash west of Gilberts

Police and fire department officials were on the scene of an accident involving a car and a semitrailer Thursday morning on Route 72 at Big Timber Road near Gilberts. Police said the man driving the car was transported by helicopter to a hospital in Libertyville.

First responders from several area departments work to extricate Martin Baureis, 26, of Johnsburg, from his car Thursday in unincorporated Rutland Township. Sheriff's police said the car Baureis was driving veered into the path of an oncoming semitrailer and was hit head-on just east of Route 72 and Big Timber Road.

A male driver was seriously injured Thursday morning in a crash on Route 72 near Big Timber Road in unincorporated Rutland Township. The 26-year-old man from Johnsburg was transported to a hospital by a medical helicopter, authorities said.
