LOMBARD, Illinois—Working his way up through the ranks has paid off for Village of Lombard Public Works employee Shaun Stillwell. Stillwell, a 14-year veteran of the department, was recently promoted to Utilities Supervisor in the Underground Utilities Division.
Stillwell, who was most recently a Crew Leader in the Streets and Electric Division, had also served as a Maintenance Worker in the streets division and in the underground utilities division. Gaining experience in all aspects of the Public Works Department has been his goal and driving force during his tenure in Lombard.
“I took advantage of every opportunity the Village afforded me,” Stillwell said. “I attended all the training classes, earned every certificate that was available to me,” he added. Stillwell is thankful that along the way, several of his supervisors took the time to teach him their trade and management skills and he was willing and eager to learn.
In his new position, Stillwell is in charge of day-to-day operations of the water/sewer functions. He is also responsible for focusing on improving workflow, ensuring efficiency in operations and advancing the technology available to field personnel.
Stillwell will rely on training and technology to help him achieve some of his goals regarding efficiency in operations. The fact that he has been promoted from within gives him the first-hand knowledge of the job to help others move forward and become more efficient.
“I’m the perfect example that if you take advantage of the opportunities the Village offers, you can be promoted and move forward,” Stillwell said. “We all work hand in hand to achieve one goal—that of serving the public,” Stillwell added.
A resident of Joliet, Stillwell is a graduate of Seneca High School and served four years in the U.S. Navy. He began in his new position December 3.Copyright © 2013 Paddock Publications, Inc. All rights reserved.
