Local Woman Earns International AWMI Honor

The Association of Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) Announces 2011 Member of the Year

Donna holds a Bachelor of Science in Applications Programming from Purdue University. She began her career with Jones & Laughlin Steel in 1977 and progressed throughout various roles of increasing responsibility becoming a Technical Sales Representative in 1998 with what was then LTV Steel. She left LTV in 2001 to become part of a new venture at USS – Straightline. She also spent time at Stainless Sales Corporation in Chicago as Quality Assurance Manager before joining ArcelorMittal in 2006. She is currently Process Manager, Commercial Support where she works with Sales and Product Control as a quality department liaison.

Donna has served at various levels on AWMI boards in both Chicago and Pittsburgh from Membership through Vice President and on Regional Boards as Regional Treasurer and Regional Director. She joined the International Board as International Treasurer in 2008 and was elected to International Vice President for the 2013-2014 term. She embraces the cornerstones of AWMI through her involvement on numerous committees. With a combination of common sense and intelligence Donna has been an invaluable asset to AWMI and its members. Besides the organized mentoring and training sessions held at conferences she is always available to any member seeking help or presenting an idea for improvement.

The Member of the Year award is the highest honor awarded by AWMI. Members are nominated and selected by their peers for exemplifying the Association's goals of Education, Mentoring, Networking and Growth.

Association of Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) is an organization of professionals, founded in California in 1981, to promote and develop the growth of women in the metal industries. AWMI believes that women in similar industries can benefit themselves and their companies through relationships, education and shared knowledge. The programs and activities of AWMI are intended to enhance members' skills and experience, address challenges confronting the industry, and promote members' career growth with the ultimate goal of increasing the number of women employed in the metal industries. Membership is open to both women and men who are seeking to develop all aspects of their professional development and career advancement.
