About 7,000 lights and a yard full of reindeer and candy canes helped Tom Johnson of Streamwood win the Daily Herald holiday lights contest in 2008.

Johnson didn't rely just on the lights; he invested nearly 500 hours in building his display with artistry and detail.

There's still time to enter the Daily Herald's holiday lights contest. The deadline for submissions is midnight Sunday, Dec. 9. Come back and vote on the winner between Dec. 10 and 16. The winner and a voter drawn at random will win snowblowers. For details, to enter and to vote, go to www.dailyherald.com/contest/holidaylights/. The contest is sponsored by Wintrust Financial Corporation.

"Many houses rely heavily on lights but I want to give people more to look at," said Johnson. "There are several themes throughout."
