'Expendables 2' explodes on DVD

“The Expendables 2”

Viewers know what they're in for when the most famous action stars of the 1980s — including Sylvester Stallone, Chuck Norris and Arnold Schwarzenegger — all team up in the same film. You expect adventure and great special effects rather than stellar acting and writing, and the “The Expendables 2” delivers. In fact, this sequel is better than the original.

A routine mission for the crew — retrieving a computer from a downed airplane — turns out to be a worldwide cat-and-mouse game. When one of the members of the crew is killed, the guys set out to avenge his death. The fun film also stars Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews and Liam Hemsworth.

“Beach Boys: 50th Anniversary Concert”

The surviving members of the original Beach Boys, along with some new members, toured the world to celebrate the California band's 50-year milestone. The audio and video of this concert, filmed in Phoenix, is good, and the music itself will take you back as you sing along to 21 songs including “Fun, Fun Fun,” “I Get Around,” “Wouldn't It Be Nice,” “Good Vibrations,” “Help Me Rhonda” and “California Girls.”

“Les Miserables: 10th Anniversary Dream Cast”

In October 1995, Cameron Mackintosh organized a great concert of his worldwide hit musical featuring performers from the London, Broadway and Australian productions of “Les Miserables.” The concert was filmed live at London's Royal Albert Hall with the cast in full costume and some set designs. The concert features a 150-voice chorus and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Fans will love hearing the cherished songs, and an encore brings together 17 actors who played Jean Valjean to sing “Do You Hear The People Sing?” in their own languages.

“Complete Thin Man Collection”

William Powell and Myrna Loy had great chemistry together as Nick and Nora Charles in six “Thin Man” films. Along with their terrier, the couple solved a variety of crimes in a sophisticated way. The writing and acting were excellent.

This DVD set has “The Thin Man,” “After The Thin Man,” “Another Thin Man,” “Shadow of the Thin Man,” “The Thin Man Goes Home” and “Song of the Thin Man.” There is also a bonus disc that includes two documentaries, radio adaptations, shorts and cartoons.
