GreenFields of Geneva Expands Living Options

GreenFields of Geneva has unveiled Willows Assisted Living and Reflections Memory Support as the second phase of the senior living community. In January, GreenFields first opened its doors with independent living apartments. With the launching of Willows and Reflections, residents of GreenFields have the ability to move through the continuum of care to meet their evolving needs and lifestyle preferences.

About the GreenFields Community

Greenfields is located west of downtown Geneva off of Keslinger Road. Nestled next to Mill Creek Elementary School, GreenFields is on a beautiful 26-acre campus. The community features luxury apartments and fabulous amenities that have earned it prestigious architecture recognition. Apartment homes are available in one and two bedroom floor plans, each with private baths and kitchens or kitchenettes. The building includes a beautiful atrium, libraries, media centers and meeting rooms, two restaurants, a wellness center and two salons.

Resident Life On and Off Campus

Many of the first residents to move in, had been sold on GreenFields since the plans for the community were first launched more than five years ago. Miriam and John O’Connell said that while the project looked good on paper, the reality of the campus far surpassed their high expectations. They are thoroughly enjoying the friendly staff, and living with the other vibrant residents. The O’Connells are very involved with many of the activities planned on campus, as well as throughout the Geneva area.

Dorothy Maisto who moved to GreenFields several months ago said that she is exactly as busy as she wants to be. With daily chef-prepared meals and weekly housekeeping services, Maisto said she has more free time than she did as a homeowner. She is now able to spend her time pursuing her hobbies, being outdoors and meeting new friends.

The residents love the location of GreenFields. “One of the things that’s appealing to us is that Geneva is a community close to the big city, but able to maintain the attributes of a small town,” said Dean McKee who lives at GreenFields with his wife Nita. The couple likes GreenFields’ easy access to downtown Chicago and Geneva and the restaurants and retail stores along Randall Road.

Together, with Predictable Financial Security

As a Life Care senior community, GreenFields provides guaranteed lifetime access to independent living, assisted living, memory support and skilled nursing, all under one roof. “It was important to us to retire in a community offering this. We have too many friends that have been separated when the husband or wife had to go into assisted living or skilled nursing. We’ve been married 59 years,” said Miriam O’Connell. She added that it was essential to the couple to have the financial security that a true Life Care contract provides by guaranteeing predictable fees. The O’Connells are enjoying retirement in their new home with the security of knowing they have a home for life.

Cutting Edge Continuum of Care

The opening of Briarwood Skilled Nursing apartments will be the final phase in delivering on GreenFields’ promise to provide a complete continuum of care. Judi Donovan, executive director of GreenFields said that Briarwood was designed to make individuals with increasing needs, feel actively engaged and comfortable in a setting that is very homelike. Traditional nurses’ stations will not exist. Instead, the nurses’ work spaces will be integrated with small clusters of living spaces including a state-of-the-art kitchen, dining room and living room.

“It flows, much like a home would flow. It’s not institutional at all,” Donovan said. Each of the apartments in skilled nursing will feature its own private bath. The apartments will be arranged into small clusters, each sharing an open kitchen and living area. This was designed, Donovan said, with the goal of creating opportunity for social engagement. “In a lot of traditional nursing homes, people are very isolated in their rooms. This is intended to create a social environment where people can contribute and thrive,” she said.

New Programs, Happy Faces

Donovan said it’s been very exciting watching the residents form friendships and help launch programming and activities. The residents are also GreenFields’ most enthusiastic spokespeople. As an Ambassador for GreenFields, Maisto is always glad to talk with potential residents, sharing the quality of life she enjoys at GreenFields.

GreenFields is sponsored Friendship Senior Options, a local not-for-profit organization which also operates Friendship Village of Schaumburg, the largest continuing care community in Illinois.
