ź Karin A. McGrier, 51, of the 1500 block of Emerson, Evanston, was arrested around 4 p.m. Nov. 23 at Marshalls, 601 E. Palatine Road, and charged with felony retail theft after she and another female reportedly placed purses in a shopping cart. McGrier covered the security detection device on three of the purses with foil, placed them into a large handbag and left. Value was estimated at $392. The other female left items in the store and was not arrested or charged. A court date is Dec. 10. McGrier has prior convictions for retail theft, reports added.
źVandals shattered the rear window and dented the rear hatch on a 2002 Ford Escape on the 600 block of South Dwyer Avenue between 10:30 p.m. Nov. 24 and 6:30 a.m. Nov. 25. A dumbell was found on the ground behind the vehicle. Damage was estimated over $1,500.
ź Vandals took a ceramic statue of a girl holding an umbrella from the front porch at a home on the 400 block of South Beverly Lane between 9 p.m. Nov. 21 and 7:30 a.m. Nov. 22 and smshed it on nearby Park Street. Damage was estimated at $200.
ź Vandals broke a black plastic mailbox off its post at a home on the 2600 block of Chapel Hill Drive between 11 p.m. Nov. 22 and 8:30 a.m. Nov. 23. Damage was estimated at $100.
ź Vandals popped an inflatable Snoopy lawn decoration at a home on the 0-100 block of South Derbyshire around 1 a.m. Nov. 25. A resident heard the popping sound and looked outside. She saw a male offender running north. Damage was estimated at $200. This is the third time in the last five years someone had destroyed holiday decorations at the home.
ź Thieves used two car jacks to lift a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer in a condominium lot on the 1400 block of East Central Road between 5:20 p.m. Nov. 19 and 6 a.m. Nov. 20 and stole four tires and rims. Value was estimated at $3,000.
ź Vandals hurled a fruitcake that hit and damaged the driver’s-side mirror on a 2012 Toyota RAV-4 on the 400 block of North Wilshire Lane around 9 p.m. Nov. 19.
ź Vandals smashed the front door windows on a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT in a fitness center lot, 60 W. Dundee Road, between 12:30 and 1:55 a.m. Nov. 21.
ź Vandals scratched the passenger’s side of a 2008 Dodge Caravan and 2012 Subaru Outback parked on the street on the 700 block of East Oakton Street between noon and 3 p.m. Nov. 24.
ź Vandals scratched the hood on a 2000 Cadillac Deville Luxury in an apartment lot on the 100 block of South Dryden Place between 2 a.m. Nov. 23 and 2 p.m. Nov. 24.
ź Vandals scratched wavy lines on a blue sign at Culvers restaurant, 2060 E. Northwest Hwy., between 10 p.m. Nov. 16 and noon Nov. 17 but reported Nov. 20. Two months ago, vandals used a white substance to draw wavy lines on the sign.
ź Vandals hit a mailbox twice at a home on the 700 block of South Dryden Place between 5 p.m. Nov. 24 and 7 a.m. Nov. 25; the mailbox was dented and bent out of shape. Damage was estimated at $60.
ź Thieves stole a 3-foot by 5-foot blue Notre Dame flag and aluminum pole outside a home on the 600 block of South Salem Avenue between 9 p.m. Nov. 17 and 6:30 a.m. Nov. 18. Value was estimated at $60.
ź Thieves stole a taxi sticker from a 2007 Ford Windstar 303 cab at the Metra depot, 45 W. Northwest Hwy., between noon Nov. 17 and 9 a.m. Nov. 20. Value was estimated at $75.
ź Burglars, possibly using a resident’s key, opened the exterior door to the fitness center room at an apartment complex office building, 2134 S. Goebbert Road, between 7 p.m. Nov. 21 and 7 a.m. Nov. 23. The offenders defeated a locked door to a package storage room. They took 35 packages belonging to residents and opened 17 others. They also left with a donation container of money for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
ź Burglars stole two wallets out of an unlocked 2008 Acura TSX in an open garage at a home on the 1400 block of South Princeton Avenue between 6:45 p.m. Nov. 23 and 8:08 a.m. Nov. 24. A man jogging on Yale Street found the two wallets and returned them. Missing were a social security card, insurance cards, and gift cards valued at $300.
ź A man reportedly took a black leather jacket valued at $200 from the back of a chair while the 37-year-old male victim was playing poker in Rivers Casino, 3000 S. River Road, around 5:20 a.m. Nov. 25. The offender was seen on a security tape taking the jacket and walking out the east doors. Casino officials were able to identify the Chicago man through his players card. The victim did not want to press charges, but the offender will be banned from the casino if he returns, reports added.
ź Vandals spray painted gang graffiti on a building in Arndt Park, 1590 E. Howard Ave., between Nov. 17 and 24. Damage was estimated at $200.
ź Vandals slashed two tires on a 2000 Ford Contour and four tires on a 2000 Ford Focus in an apartment lot on the 100 block of Dover Drive between 4 and 9 a.m. Nov. 22. Damage was estimated at $480.
ź Thieves stole a white 2005 Kenworth semitractor out of a parking lot at 1801 S. Elmhurst Road between Nov. 23 and 27. “Mark It” was written on the side of the tractor.
ź Thieves cut wires and hoses and stole the air conditioner unit from the side of Nu Way Industries, 445 Howard Ave., between Nov. 21 and 26. Value was estimated at $4,000.
ź Burglars stole two boys’ bicycles out of an unlocked shed at a home on the 100 block of West Berkshire Lane between 7 p.m. Nov. 19 and 7 a.m. Nov. 20 but left one of the bikes at a nearby creek.
