Local fire departments launch Keep the Wreath Red program
Several area fire departments including the village of Barrington and the Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District are participating in a "Keep the Wreath Red" program, a public awareness initiative that encourages residents to prevent fires caused by seasonal decorations.
Festive wreaths hanging at fire stations will begin the holiday season illuminated with red bulbs. Any fire caused by decorations will be changed to a white bulb.
Fire Chief James Arie reported no such fires have occurred in the district or village over the past seven years. Safety tips can be found at bcfpd.org.
