Too many preemies
One of eight babies in Illinois are born prematurely. Hospitals and advocacy groups are trying to reduce those numbers through these recommendations to state lawmakers:
• Better tracking of data to determine risk factors for premature births and best treatment options
• Eliminate elective early deliveries
• Prenatal education for Medicaid-eligible women who are at risk for preterm births
• Reduce racial and ethnic disparities in pregnancy outcomes.
