Attorneys for resigning Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. say he is cooperating in a federal investigation, negotiating a resolution and it could take months.
Thatís according to a statement from partners at law firms in Chicago and Washington on Wednesday, the same day Jackson announced his resignation from Congress. The attorneys include Chicago-based lawyer and former U.S. Attorney Dan Webb.
The statement did not detail what the investigation is about, but it was their first public recognition that Jackson is under a new investigation. The Chicago Democrat also mentioned it in his resignation letter to House members, but did not reveal details.
Recent reports have said itís about misuse of campaign funds.
Attorneys urged the public to give Jackson privacy ďto handle these issues responsibly.Ē
