Get active at Schaumburg Park District Thanksgiving Day

By

Get active at Schaumburg Park District before the tryptophan sets in.

The District’s Olympic Park, Spring Valley and three fitness centers will be open Thanksgiving Day to work off pounds before enjoying mouthwatering turkey. The turkey’s tryptophan, an amino acid with a sleep inducing effect, will leave you relaxed and tired after a vigorous day.

Get off the couch and play your own football game at Olympic Park before the NFL’s Thanksgiving Classic. Olympic Park, 1675 E. Old Schaumburg Road, and its eight synthetic turf sport fields will be available for open play from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The technologically advanced fields are perfect for traditional “turkey bowl” football games.

Fitness centers at Schaumburg Tennis Plus, 1416 N. Payne Road; Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road; and Meineke Recreation Center, 220 E. Weathersfield Way, will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to get hearts pumping before Thanksgiving feasts. The workout areas will close at 12:30 p.m. Lap swim is available at The Water Works, located inside the Community Recreation Center, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The grounds and trails at Spring Valley, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for walkers. The facilities and restrooms at Spring Valley are closed.

The Sport Center, 1141 W. Irving Park Road, will be closed Thanksgiving Day. The indoor sports facility will be open 5:30 to 9 p.m., Nov. 23; 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Nov. 24; and 12:30 to 9 p.m., Nov. 25.
