Get moving at Turkey Trots in the Fox Valley

Need an excuse to indulge in some serious eating on Thanksgiving Day? How about supercharging your metabolism by running a race before you sit down to eat?

Here are a few Fox Valley races to consider. Another incentive to sign up: funds raised will be donated to charity.

Algonquin/Lake in the Hills

The ninth annual Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Turkey Trot will be Thursday, Nov. 22. All donations go the local food pantry. Registration opens Thanksgiving from 7:15-7:50 a.m. at Lifetime Fitness, 451 Rolls Road, Algonquin. The 5K run/walk starts at 8 a.m. You can also preregister at www.alith-foodpantry.org. The suggested donation is $10 or equal value of nonperishable food items. Children and strollers are welcome at the race.

Batavia

The Fox River Trail Runners and Batavia Accelerators are hosting the 16th annual Fox and Turkey 4-Mile and Youth Mile Race Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, Nov. 22.

The Youth Mile starts at 8 a.m. and the Four Mile at 9 a.m. at the Peg Bond Center, 151 Island Ave., Batavia. Race-day registration is from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Peg Bond Center.

A long-sleeved shirt is included in both race entries. The shirts are guaranteed for preregistered runners. Shirts are available for race day registrants until supplies last.

Race fee for the 4-mile run is $35. The youth mile fee is $20.

The races are run along the Fox River Trail starting in downtown Batavia. The youth mile uses the first half-mile of the 4-mile course.

This is a food drive event to benefit the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry. Runners and spectators are encouraged to bring a nonperishable food item to donate to the food pantry. Awards will be given to finishers in different categories.
