Party not everything when casting vote

Regarding Republican state Rep. Randy Ramey finding it disconcerting that "people are not keeping in line with the party all the way down the ballot," I think it is reflective of a far greater issue than "party politics" or "politics as usual." To me, it suggests that the population is very tired of both parties flexing their muscle over their members (including unions dictating to their membership) to walk a strict party line regardless of how the individual politicos feel about that line.

Personally, I long to find those in leadership positions who seek to serve us first with honesty and integrity, putting their political aspirations second and believing that doing the job well for us will ultimately serve their interests as well. That means judging a candidate individually regardless of party affiliation. It seems we are a very long way from the goals of the framers of our Constitution.
