Sea English Academy graduates eighth TESOL class
Sea English Academy in Schaumburg is proud to announce the eighth TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) graduating class.
The six new TESOL graduates were awarded their TESOL certificates at a ceremony Friday, Oct. 19, at the Sea English Academy office.
TESOL certification allows individuals to teach English abroad or domestically, after having completed the four-week TESOL curriculum and two weeks of practicum teaching in the community. Three of the six graduates plan to teach English abroad, primarily in Asia, and three graduates plan to seek employment domestically.
“In this challenging job environment, many high school and college graduates are left with a diploma or degree and nothing else. Sea English Academy is a great ‘Plan B’ for those seeking employment. Who wouldn’t want to travel the world and get paid?” says Mira Benjamin, business development director.
Village Trustee Frank Kozak attended the grand opening and first graduating class celebration at Sea English Academy.
“Sea English is a great group of people teaching valuable skills to those who want to try something new and teach English at home or abroad,” said Trustee Kozak. “You can travel the world and get paid to do it.”
Benjamin noted that it is not necessary to speak a foreign language to be TESOL-certified since teaching English is done through complete immersion, in that English is the only language spoken during lessons. It is also not necessary to possess a college degree, although the salary for degreed TESOL teachers is significantly higher.
Sea English Academy is located at 1920 Thoreau Drive N #175, in Schaumburg.
