With donations coming in daily in response to the Des Plaines Police and Fire Departmentís "New York, Des Plaines Has Your Back" Hurricane Sandy Relief Effort, the departure date for the trailer, parked outside the Des Plaines Police Station, 1418 E. Miner Street, has been extended to 11 AM, Saturday, November 24, 2012. Donated by Dayton Freight, the trailer, which is being used to collect items up until Wednesday, November 21, 2012, will take various items to the east coast to aid hurricane victims.
Des Plaines Police have been working with a representative from the New York City Police Department who is coordinating relief efforts in the area. Items most needed by victims of Hurricane Sandy are: cleaning supplies (including bleach), mops, sponges, hoses, garbage bags, paper towels, fans, and dehumidifiers. In addition, there is a need for baby supplies, including blankets and disposable diapers, non-expired baby formula, new hats, scarves, and mittens. Clothing items are no longer needed.
