Crystal Lake S. downs St. Viator

Depth and multiple players who can score in double figures is a luxury Crystal Lake South girls basketball coach Kyle McCaughn has rarely had in his 11 years as the Gators’ head coach.

It looks like the Gators will have both those commodities in 2012-13.

Rotating 9 players on a regular basis, the Gators were led by Sara Mickow with 22 points and 12 rebounds and Rachel Rasmussen with 15 points in a 56-45 win over St. Viator Wednesday night in the opening round of the Dundee-Crown Thanksgiving Tournament in Carpentersville.

“I think we will be able to play nine kids, maybe more,” said McCaughn. “We showed a presence inside and outside. I thought we played three solid quarters which is good for a first game.”

Trailing 16-8 after one quarter, the Gators grabbed control of the game by outscoring the Lions 32-14 over the next two quarters..

Utilizing a 13-2 run, South took the lead for good at 21-18 on a 3-point play by Mickow with 3:11 left in the first half.

Erin Fabbre was the lone Lion in double digits with 18 points.
