For 45 years, Lil Adams has called Sugar Grove home. For 35 years, the Sugar Grove Community Building has been her second home.
Residents of Sugar Grove have used the Sugar Grove Community Building to celebrate the many special milestones in life, including anniversaries, birthdays, baptisms and even weddings.
Those celebrations would not have been as wonderful without the efforts of Adams, who has always been there to reserve the building, making sure it's clean and ready for the next party, as well as to help others plan their special gatherings.
She has done all of this despite that fact that it's far more demanding than a 9-to-5 job. It has required her availability at any hour of the day, 7 days a week, including major holidays.
Thanks to her tireless efforts over the years, a new garden was created this summer in honor of her recent retirement. It will be known as "Lil's Garden" thanks to all of the hard work she's put in over the years for thousands of the community's residents. Adams joined the Sugar Grove Community Board in 1977 and took over managerial duties in 1989. It's been a special time for Adams lately, as she was also named the 2011 Sugar Grove Citizen of the Year.
"Our community owes a great deal of gratitude to Lil for everything she has done for them," said Stan Schumacher, president of the Sugar Grove Community Building's board of directors.
"This day is long overdue and will be a wonderful time to come out and pay tribute to a great person."
The public is invited to join in for a dedication in Adams' honor Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Sugar Grove Community Building, 141 S. Main St. Refreshments will be served and tours of the facility will be provided from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The dedication will begin at 10 a.m.
