Library's Teen Place to Host Grand Opening Nov. 24

After months of planning, construction and wiring, the new Teen Place at the Schaumburg Township District Library will hold its Grand Opening from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 24th at the Central Library, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg. In conjunction with the Teen Place opening, the library will host its final 50th Anniversary Celebration in the lobby from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. All ages are invited to both events.

The anniversary celebration will include free cookies in the lobby, a prize wheel, and historical video presentation in the lobby, with an historical photo display on the second floor.

The Teen Place Grand Opening will begin with a ribbon cutting at 1 p.m., followed by tours of the state-of-the-art, 6,000 sq. ft. area, complete a multipurpose program room, gaming stations, collaboration rooms, a digital media production studio, DJ equipment and computer bank with 27” MacBooks. Library staff will be stationed throughout the teen area to demonstrate equipment.

But that’s not all. Library visitors will see that in addition to all the technology, the fiction and non-fiction book, graphic novel and magazine collections have been expanded. All visitors to the teen area get a little thank you gift for checking out the library’s newest addition.

To celebrate the grand opening, Teen Place is hosting a teen Variety Show beginning at 3 p.m. in the Program Room. Students in grades 7-12 will entertain in the performance area, and all ages are welcome to attend.

After the Grand Opening, Teen Place will be open to teens ages 12-19 M-Fri 2-10 p.m.; Sat., 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.; Sunday, Noon-9 p.m. during the school year and Noon-5 p.m. in summer. Adults are welcome to use the Teen Place Discussion Rooms Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., except on school holidays.
