For centuries, studies of Jesus downplayed or ignored his Jewish historical context — and many studies still address his Jewish background only as a steppingstone to his role as the Christ. But such neglect has had consequences. Many of these studies have served as a fertile source for anti-Judaism and anti-Semitism, a professor argues at “The Jewish Jesus” 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at Oakton Community College’s Skokie campus, 7701 N. Lincoln Ave. (Room P103). Sponsored by the college’s Jewish Studies Concentration, the free presentation features Zev Garber, professor emeritus and chair of Jewish Studies, Los Angeles Valley College, and editor of Shofar Journal.
