United Way sponsors ‘Power of the Purse’ event Nov. 14

United Way of Lake County’s Women’s Leadership Council is harnessing the “Power of the Purse” to give women and children of Lake County the opportunity to succeed.

The seventh annual “Power of the Purse” event will take place from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14, at the Arboretum Club, 401 Half Day Road, Buffalo Grove.

Founded in 2005, the Women’s Leadership Council is dedicated to uniting leadership and resources to make a difference in the lives of women and children in Lake County through volunteerism, philanthropy and leadership development.

At the “Power of the Purse” event, women from Lake County are invited to enjoy an evening of networking, wine tasting and a vendor fair featuring desserts, purses, jewelry and more.

“‘The Power of the Purse’ is a wonderful annual event that brings together women that want to make a difference in their community,” said Patrice Maloney-Knauff, chair of the Women’s Leadership Council.

“We invite all women to join us and learn more about the efforts of the Women’s Leadership Council.”

During the event, WLC members and guests will mingle, network and enjoy a vendor fair featuring a variety of local vendors, including jewelry (Charlotte Muzik, Tiffany Gruber and Strung Out Design), purses (Miche Bags and Jazzy Designs) and gifts (Thirty-One and Brittane’s Designs), as well as Wine Shop at Home and Godiva.

Vendors have agreed to donate 10 percent of all purchases to United Way of Lake County’s efforts to prepare children to succeed in a changing world.

The event is open to all women who are interested in learning more about the Women’s Leadership Council. To register, visit www.liveunitedlakecounty.org/purse. The cost is $30 per person and includes appetizers and a glass of wine. Guests are also encouraged to bring their gently-used handbags to donate to the Staben House Dress for Success Program.
