Free diabetes screeening in Arlington Hts.

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge will be provide free diabetes screenings to local residents 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday in the lobby of Village Bank & Trust, 311 S. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights. “November 14th is World Diabetes Day,” said state Rep. David Harris, who is sponsoring the event with the bank and the hospital. “To increase awareness of diabetes and to promote early detection of this disease, the free screenings are a part of an ongoing effort to shed light on the growing epidemic of diabetes and to promote early detection.” The U.S. Center for Disease Control estimates that 40 percent of the population has diabetes, but many cases remain undiagnosed. Medical care for diabetes costs an estimated $7.3 billion annually in Illinois.
