Semitrailer strikes, kills man in Elk Grove Village

A pedestrian on Elmhurst Road in Elk Grove Village was killed Friday night when a semitrailer struck him, police said.

The victim, identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office as Jose Resugio Meza-Horatio, 53, of Des Plaines, was struck about 9:30 p.m. by a semitrailer heading south on Elmhurst near Landmeier Road, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Meza-Horatio’s cause of death was ruled an accident and listed as multiple injuries from the semitrailer crash, according to the medical examiner’s office.

Police said the semitrailer was driven by 54-year-old Alvaro Moreno of Round Lake, who was not injured in the crash. The Elk Grove Village Police Department’s traffic section is investigating the cause of the crash.

Authorities did not indicate whether Moreno may face charges.
