Three gang members, two of them juveniles, were charged following a shooting in Waukegan, authorities said.
An unnamed 16-year-old juvenile from Waukegan was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Also, Oscar Vega, 18, and an unnamed 17-year-old juvenile, both from Waukegan, were charged with misdemeanor mob action and battery following the attack in the 900 block of Glenwood Avenue at 5:21 p.m. Tuesday.
The 16-year-old was charged as an adult, but was remanded to the Hulse Juvenile Detention Center near Vernon Hills, authorities said. He is held in lieu of $250,000.
Authorities said what began as an argument between rival gang members escalated into the shooting. Police said the victim suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder that was not life threatening. He was treated at an area hospital.
Members of the Waukegan Police Department's Gang Intelligence Unit were able to apprehend the suspects, thanks to the cooperation of the residents in the neighborhood, officials said.
